What is wet-end process in leather production?

Wet-end; refers to the processes in the beam house and the tanning stages of the leather which has been preserved under suitable conditions. In addition, wet-end defines the production stages applied to give characteristic properties such as softness, mechanical resistance and color to the leather.

During leather manufacturing, leathers must be exposed to various mechanical effects and react with some chemicals. This process ends with the leathers gaining some physical properties that increase their product and usage values.

 

HİSAR manufactures some of the wet-end leather machines used in this process. These tannery machines:

  • Drum
  • Mixer
  • Paddle
  • Milling drum.

 

Drum: Generally, the reaction environments where the leathers are treated for the longest time during the preparation and tanning stages is wooden drum. The woods used in production of drum are imported from West Africa and they are highly resistant to chemicals. At production; hard, baked and dehumidified woods are used only. According to required capacity; it can be produced in many various dimensions or full capacity type jumbo drums. Basically, according to the purposes of use; soaking, liming, tanning and retanning drums are available

 

Mixer: It is one of the tannery machines used to provide necessary mechanical effect for the chemical reaction in leather processing. With the help of the spirals in the tanning mixer, the skin is moved upwards and again from the top to the bottom. Main body is made of special type polyester or special type stainless steel selected with the most suitable features for the customer’s production. Mixers; need less space, are relocatable, easy to load and unload, use less power.

 

Paddle: They are half-cylindrical systems which hides are moved together with the fluid inside of its pool. Mixing is done with wings. The paddle main body can be manufactured from polyester, wood or stainless steel with properties suitable for the type of chemical and process. One of the advantage of paddle; the ease of loading-unloading of product and the easy process control. Loading and unloading of tilting paddles is provided by hydraulically controlled cylinders. The drainage of the fluid n the paddle pool is provided by hydraulic valves controlled from electrical panel.

 

Milling drum: They are used in the last step of leather tanning operations. Basically; heating, accumulation of dusts and humidifying operations can be done in milling drum. Main body material is stainless steel or wood.
